SALASUSU – English
Date:
Creating “Classrooms Where No One Is Left Behind.”
Starting with supporting the growth of teachers in Cambodia.

Graduated from primary school, but still cannot read.
Cambodia lost many teachers during its civil war.
Even after half a century, the impact remains.
Thanks to various support, schools were built,
curriculums and textbooks were introduced.
Now, most children complete primary school.
Yet, many are still not truly learning.
Who can create “classrooms where no one is left behind”?
The answer is teachers.

Children Left Behind in Classrooms
Even with better facilities, textbooks, and curriculums,
many children cannot feel real learning in the classroom.
Only about 10% of 10-year-olds can read at the expected level.
This is one of the lowest in Asia.
Now, we need to focus on the “quality” of education,
so that every child can truly learn.
When Teachers Change, Lessons Change
No matter how good the facilities or textbooks are,
the key to better classrooms is the teachers.
Teachers with experience and expertise
who reach every child with care
are improving lessons and changing the future of children.
PROJECTS
SALASUSU’s Approach
We work to create “classrooms where no one is left behind,”
where every child can continue learning for 45 minutes.
We support teacher learning across Cambodia.

1. Community Laboratory School
Located in Sotnikum District, Siem Reap Province.
We run a model school operated by Cambodian teachers,
aiming to create “classrooms where all children can learn for 45 minutes.”
We offer classes in Khmer, Math, Art, and Ethics to about 50 students
from nearby public schools,
and conduct joint teacher training with their teachers.
2. Teacher Development
We provide teacher training focusing on “Lesson Study”
at public primary and secondary schools
and at teacher training university-affiliated schools in Cambodia.
We support teachers to “learn from children’s learning,”
helping spread “classrooms where no one is left behind”
across Cambodia.
3. Study Tours
We offer study tours and learning programs
mainly for Japanese junior high, high school, and university students.
Facilitated by Japanese staff in rural Cambodia,
the programs cover topics like SDGs, social issues, career paths,
and personal development.
Individual tours are also available.
